Upcoming Show

Well, all the work is off to the framer's and the invitations are being printed.

It's been an action packed last couple of months in the studio, but really, it's been wonderful. Maybe it's the pressure of a deadline. Maybe it's knowing that your studio mate will be moving soon and you want to work, and work, and work until she leaves so that when she does you'll somehow have so much left of her in there that you won't miss her as much. That's not likely though and it feels a little bit like the end of an era. A bit melodramatic? I suppose, but I have worked with Jodie-Anne since we were keen little undergrads back in 1993. I have always loved watching how she works, and in turn how it makes me work. I appreciate how she gets what I'm doing, and supports my ideas, and gives great suggestions. I love how we can listen to Joni Mitchel's Blue over and over -- because it's the studio album. I like that sometimes she shows up at the studio and it's like she's taken a giggle pill and she bubbling over with infectious laughter that makes the studio the best place in the world to be.

I'm so glad we are doing this show together Jodie Anne. Thanks for it all.

oh Nola,

It can't be the end of an era...we must always be studio-mates...because...well because that is how we make art. I don't know how otherwise. Studio=Nola=Joni=Over and Over. The equation is the equation. I've learned so much with you and from you. We will find a way to work together long distance. It will be different but not over...stop it with the melodrama...I will cry.

I'm so glad we are doing this show together Nola Meme. Thanks for it all.

Okay...I am a little lot scared...some melodrama is allowed.

June 3rd's post is helping. "Attempt what is not certain."

You're right Jodie Anne. We will be fine, it will just be different. Different isn't bad it's just different. I'm sorry if I made you scared. I was just feeling so happy about last night's giddy studio session, and then I felt sad.

WE WILL BE OKAY.

I know, me too.

It was a particularly good studio night...its hard to think different is okay when the same is working so well.

Also

Look at the times on the last two comments.

oh!

Congratulations to you and Jodie on the show! I'm really sorry I won't be able to see it or come to your opening. I am sure you can find a way to work together long distance. It won't be the same but it will be good.

Hi Shara,

Nice to see you here! Thanks for your encouraging words about working long distance. I guess you have experience, what with Cinde in SK, and you in ON.

How is your summer so far? Any exciting paintings that you're working on?

hi Nola!

oh, now I realise it looks like I just butted in on your conversation with Jodie. heh ... oops!

I like your blog a lot -- your garden looks super amazing and if I were in Edmonton I'd love to take some of that tarragon off your hands.

I just bought some used canvasses from a value village with the intention of painting some pictures of my cats. Right now the canvasses have paintings of comic book dudes like Wolverine on them. Very detailed, done probably by a 16 year old and he was probably very proud of them. How they ended up at VV I don't know. I only feel a little bit guilty for planning to paint over then though.

hmm... so, perhaps I should start my own blogger thing and post pictures so I can get some good critiques for once!

I've not been painting a lot lately (within the last couple years) unless you count Cinde and Megan's pinata from the wedding, and a commission I did a few months ago. Sad, really. But other art stuff, yes -- drawing, and been working on a performance thingy that got accepted into a festival here in September.

It is really the worst thing that Cinde is in SK, or that I'm in ON, or rather that it is not easy for us to work together. However, when we do see each other it's pretty great. Now you will have an excuse to go on road trips to see each other, but I know it will take some adjustment.

Cinde and Megan are in town right now working on an installation through SAVAC, it's a collaboration with AKA. So we'll get to see each other soon! yay!

In other news - last night my bike tire got caught in a streetcar track and I fell off, crashed. Embarassing (lots of people saw, and I should have been more careful), scary (there was a car behind me & I was trying to avoid a garbage truck that was driving on the wrong side of the road!), AND hurts (just bad bruising, but I may as well whine).

Good luck with the show!! the photos look good...

Shara,

Not butting in at all, just joining the conversation.

I think it's pretty great that portraits of your cats will cover the likes of Wolverine! Meow!

You should totally start a blog so that we can see what you're up to, your work, where you live, your bruises!

Sorry about your bike accident - a couple of years ago I did something similar, I was standing up riding my bike and pointed to something with one hand and accidentally leaned on the brake with the other ---it ended in head over handle bars and a pretty hurt ego. Now I always wear a helmet, even though my bike is seriously a grandma bike!

Say hello to Cinde and Megan. And let me know when you get your blog up and running.
